HANDS-ON KNOWLEDGE is a series of lectures, workshops and discussions organised by the students in the cross-disciplinary course ‘Design for the Living World’ at the HFBK Hamburg. We are interested in socially committed, participatory design. We work with local residents in the tradition of learning by doing. We believe that design is not only for designers.

The series will run from October 2013 to July 2014. We invite experts to share their knowledge with us from a variety of fields and disciplines, including environmental and ecologic economics, open-source development, hands-on practices, and urban activism. Together, we want to explore new practices that answer the challenges of designing our future world. What’s important is not just abstract theory, but HANDS-ON KNOWLEDGE!
